Is joining a fraternity just paying for your
friends?
Most organizations charge dues, whether they are a sports team,
a local club or a fraternity or sorority. Since fraternities and
sororities are non-profit organizations, dues are used to fund
various parts of its day-to-day operations, including: academic
incentives, national membership dues, scholarships, sporting and
social events, and many other normal everyday expenses.
Is there hazing?
Absolutely not. Hazing is illegal and UW - Eau Claire, our
national organization and our chapter have regulations prohibiting
hazing. However, it is not only regulations that prevent us from
hazing. We believe that everyone should be treated with respect and
hazing would show a lack of respect.
How much time is required to join Delta Sigma
Phi?
As with many endeavors, the amount of time and effort you put in
to Delta Sig will affect what you get out of it. Ultimately, it is
up to the individual to determine how much time and involvement
they put into the chapter. We require that you attend weekly
meetings and, when it fits within your schedule, the events of that
week. Academics are important to Delta Sig, so at no point will you
be forced to choose between school and a Delta Sig event.
How are fraternities different than other
organizations?
When you join a fraternity, your membership is not just limited
to your time in school. Membership in a fraternity is a lifetime
commitment and the friendships and bonds that you make while in
school stay with you forever. Members of Delta Sigma Phi are as
close to family as you can get away from home.
Are fraternities just like they are shown on
TV?
Fraternities are nothing like they are portrayed in movies and
on TV. We like to have fun, but the academic responsibilities and
public service that we are committed to are frequently overlooked
for the generic stereotypes of fraternities.
